The
activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir locked in chase and counter-chase
with law enforcers and blasted cocktails in two separate spots in the
capital on Thursday. The incidents occurred in Mohakhali and Ittefaq intersection when the activists of Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, came with sudden processions and resorted to hit and run tactics.
Police detained a Shibir activist from the Mohakhali area.
The Shibir men claimed that they brought the processions protesting Wednesday's police action on them.
They also claimed that the law enforcers resisted their scheduled countrywide demonstration programme on Wednesday.
At least 30 people were injured as Jamaat- Shibir men clashed with police, blasted cocktails, threw brick chips and vandalised vehicles on the capital's DIT road on Wednesday.
The Jamaat-Shibir men brought out the procession demanding release of top Jamaat leaders being tried on war crimes charges.
The incident of clash between Jamaat-Shibir and law enforcers was also reported from Chittagong, Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj.
In Ittefaq intersection on Thursday, nearly 100 Shibir men brought out a procession around 10:30am and fled the scene blasting several cocktails when police chased them, said Anwar Hossain, deputy commissioner (DC) of Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The Shibir men also hurled brick chips to police while they were fleeing the scene, the DC added.
On the other hand, a Shibir activist was detained when around 150 Shibir men brought out another procession near Mohakhali flyover around 10:00am and locked in a chase and counter-chase as police resisted them, said Ashraful Islam, a sub-inspector (SI) of Banani Police Station.
During the incident, the Shibir activists also hurled brick chips at law enforces and tried to vandalise vehicles, the SI added.
