Border killings unacceptable: BGB DG

Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Aziz Ahmed on Monday protested the killings of Bangladeshi nationals by Indian Border Security Force terming it 'unacceptable'.
"Violating the international law, the border killings are not acceptable at all," the BGB director general said.
"We’ve told the BSF not to kill Bangladeshi nationals, who trespass India territory illegally, but to arrest and handover them to police,” he added.
The director general was addressing a press briefing at BGB Pilkhana Headquarters in the capital in the morning.
The DG said, "We have formally lodged protest with the Indian government for each and every killing on the border."
But most of the killings committed due to lack of awareness about cross-border movements, he said.
About 2009 Pilkhana mutiny, the DG said departmental trials of the cases in connection with the mutiny have already been completed, but the cases filed under criminal act remain under trial.
He further said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the four BGB regional headquarters that set up in Rangpur, Jessore, Brahmanbaria and Chittagong for better border management on January 20.
He mentioned ‘Rifle Security Unit’ has been renamed as ‘Border Security Bureau’ while Signal Battalion’ as ‘Information and Communication Technology (ICT)’ ‘as part of BGB’s reform programme.
