Dental students on Monday gave an ultimatum until February 2 to the government to fulfill their five-point demand including changing their programme name into BSc in Dentistry.

The students declared the five-day ultimatum while holding a three-hour blockade programme at Shahbagh intersection in the capital since 10:15am under the banner of BSc in Health Technology (Dental) Students' Association.
Commuters suffered a lot as transport movement came to a halt due to the blockade, causing a long tailback on the roads leading to Shahbagh.
People had to badly suffer in Kantaban, Matsya Bhaban and Ruposhi Bangla Hotel areas following the disruption.
While addressing the demonstration, Md Arafat Haider, member secretary of the association, said they would announce their next course of action on February 3 if their demands are not met by then.
Earlier, more than 200 students of the association blocked the intersection by setting fire to several tyres to realise their demands.
Traffic movement resumed around 1:00pm after the students withdrew their blocked.
The other demands include creation of job opportunity for them, introduction of a four-year academic programme along with one-year internship, affiliating all dental colleges to the universities and approval of their course from Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and ensure practice registration for the students.
