Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said there is a political
motive behind the demonstration of non-government school, college and
madrasa teachers for nationalisation of their jobs."I am compelled to say that the demonstration were nothing but to fulfill a political motive," the minister told this to newsmen emerging from a meeting at his ministry in the afternoon.
He said the demand for nationalisation of their (teachers) jobs is impractical.
He also alleged that the teachers are trying to create confusion through pressing their demand.
Urging the demonstrators not to create confusion, the minister said talks may be held on the issue if necessary.
He also said time is yet to come to nationalise the secondary level educational institutions.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, several hundred teachers and staff of non-government schools, colleges and madrasas from across the country started a sit-in before the Jatiya Press Club demanding nationalisation of their jobs.
Traffic movement came to a halt on the road stretching from Kadam Foara to Paltan intersection following the demonstration.
The vehicular movements remain suspended at 5:45pm when the report was filed.
Traffic congestion has spilled all over the roads leading to the press club.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
The non-government teachers and staff under the banner of Shikkhak Karmachari Oikya Jote, a platform for pro-BNP teachers, enforced an indefinite strike at their institution since January 10 to press home their one-point demand.
The teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions started demonstration since January 7 to press home their demand to include their institutions in the MPO list.
They postponed their agitation on January 18 for three months following a meeting with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
