According to a press release sent on Wednesday, Jamaat has reduced the strike by six hours for the capital following a request by the president of Supreme Court Bar Association to hold an annual programme of the SCBA.
While the hartal has been reduced in the port city considering a request by the organisers of Bangladesh Premier League, the release added.
Earlier in another press release, Jamaat announced the hartal for immediate release of its war crimes accused high-ups Motiur Rahman Nizami and Ghulam Azam and all opposition leaders and restoration of the caretaker government system.
The party declared the hartal two days after it and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir unleashed terror on police in the capital and elsewhere to mount pressure on the government to stop the war crimes trials.
The Jamaat-Shibir mayhem left at least 70 people, including 50 cops, injured.
They smashed around 200 vehicles across the country on Monday.
