Dhaka, Jan 2 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested central Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former lawmaker Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher in the city's Khilgaon on charges of 'plotting against the government'.
The elite crime-bustling force said that they detained the Jamaat leader from the house of one of his relatives in the evening.
Chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of the RAB Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com that Taher was arrested on charges of 'hatching conspiracy against the government'.
Taher, a member of the Islamist party's Central Working Council, was elected MP in 2001 from Comilla-12 (Chauddagram) parliamentary constituency.
He was arrested in March 2007 on charges of corruption and extortion, and is now on bail.
He was nabbed in a sedition case in 2011, but later secured bail.
