Giasuddin Al Mamun
The
High Court on Thursday cleared the way for a lower court to continue
the money laundering case filed against Giasuddin Al Mamun, a business
partner of BNP leader Tarique Rahman.A third bench of the High Court of Justice M Enayetur Rahim summarily rejected a petition filed by Mamun challenging the legalities of the proceedings of the case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on October 26, 2009 filed the case with Cantonment Police Station on charge of laundering TK 20.4 crore.
On November 27, last year, a division bench of the High Court passed a split order on the petition filed by Mamun.
On that day, Senior Judge of the bench Justice Abdul Awal issued a role upon the ACC to explain why the case proceedings should not be declared illegal while the Junior Judge of the bench Justice M Faruque rejected the petition.
Later, the chief justice sent the petition along with the split order to the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim for its final disposal.
The bench today delivered the verdict agreeing with the order of Justice Faruque.
Barrister AM Ehsanur Rahman, a lawyer for Mamun told The Daily Star that his client will move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.
