Unidentified criminals torched two buses and vandalised five more in Old Dhaka on Tuesday morning.However, there was no report of casualty in the sudden attacks.
The buses of Skyline Paribahan of Sadarghat-Mirpur route were gutted completely before the fire fighters reached the spot, near Bahadur Shah Park.
Quoting witnesses, Mokbul Hossain, a sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said a gang of three to four youths set fire to the buses, which were parked on the road, after pouring petrol around 8:30am.
UNB adds: Five buses were damaged in an attack allegedly by the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir near Jagannath University in the Old Dhaka around 8:30am.
They also damaged the buses with sticks and hurled brickbats on the vehicles in the area.
The attackers fled the scene as police rushed to the spot.
The incident took place just a day after the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir unleashed terror on police in the capital and elsewhere to mount pressure on the government to stop the war crimes trials.
During their hit-and-run demonstration on Monday, they also set fire to at least four vehicles and vandalised around 200 across the country.
