The brand new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus officially debuted today in Anaheim, Calif. at WonderCon, the fan convention little sister of Comic-Con. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof hosted the panel that featured Scott, and Prometheus costars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, and before screening the trailer, they promised the two-and-a-half-minute clip would help resolve many pressing questions fans have about the film.

The trailer does indeed illuminate a bit more of the film’s storyline. Check it out below:

As you can see, a pictogram discovered at sites from ancient civilizations spread across Earth and across time all appear to indicate the location of some sort of alien civilization. Once that planet is reached by the spaceship Prometheus, we get a quick glimpse at the space jockey from Scott’s Alien, and the sense that they find the same semi-circle ship that appears to have crashed in Alien. What’s in that ship? Some kind of goo that appears to be living. Creepy!

But after the trailer screened and Lindelof brought out Theron and Fassbender, the foursome pretty much vamped for the rest of their time on stage, not taking any questions from the WonderCon crowd. Instead, we heard from Scott on his casting process (he likes to get to know the actors before discussing the script) and Theron on acting in an ensemble (she likes actors!), before Lindelof fielded questions via Twitter that were mostly attempts to hit on Michael Fassbender. (How does Fassbender smell? Theron: “It’s a combination of musk and chilis. Sometimes mixed in with a little mint.”)

We were privy to at least one happy revelation: Scott is hoping to make a Prometheus sequel. “If we’re lucky, there will be a second part of this [film],” he said to cheers from the crowd. “The film does leave you with some nice big open questions.”
