BCL men torch Gaibandha Jamaat office

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men set fire to Gaibandha district office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday.
The activists of BCL, the student wing of ruling Awami League, also vandalised two Shibir-controlled student's mess around 12noon, reports our Gaibandha correspondent quoting witnesses.
Earlier around 11:30am, Islami Chhatra Shibir men clashed with police personnel when the law enforcers intercepted them from holding a procession on Station Bazar Road in the town, said Mosharraf Hossain, assistant superintendent of police in Gaibandha.

During the clash, chases and counter-chases also took place.
Police had to charge batons to disperse the agitating Shibir men as they hurled brick chips at the law enforcers.
Witnesses said, after the clash, a group of BCL men vandalised two Shibir-controlled student's mess and torched the Jamaat office in David Company area of the town.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Shibir District President Faisal Kabir Rana claimed that BCL men in cooperation with police set fire to their office.
He also claimed that at least 12 Shibir leaders and activists were injured during the clash.
The activists of Shibir, student front of Jamaat, brought out the procession demanding immediate release of their detained leaders, the Jamaat leader said.
