Govt to probe 'intelligence failure' in Jamaat-Shibir mayhem: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Tuesday said the government will investigate whether there was any intelligence failure circling the Jamaat-Shibir violence across the country.
“Administrative action would be taken if any lapses are detected after the investigation,” the minister said at a press conference at the conference room of the Press Institute of Bangladesh.

The minister’s remark came a day after the activists of Bangaldesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir unleashed terror on police in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Joypurhat and Satkhira to mount pressure on the government to stop the war crimes trials.
The Jamaat-Shibir mayhem left at least 70 people, including 50 cops, injured. A policeman and an auto-rickshaw driver in Chittagong suffered bullet wounds as Shibir activists opened fire.
Meanwhile, the government high command expressed resentment over the poor security measures in and around Bangladesh Secretariat as the Shibir men went berserk in the area when the prime minister was in the cabinet meeting.
Expressing disappointment over the role of law enforcement agencies, a senior minister said proper security measures were not in place around the secretariat.

About subscribing five selected newspapers by all government and semi-government offices and autonomous bodies, Inu said it was not an order but a request.
He also discussed the achievements of the government in the last four years.
