Peaceful hartal underway in 2 upazilas of Patuakhali, Kushtia

The dawn-to-dusk hartal in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali and Khoksa upazila of Kushtia is going on peacefully on Wednesday.
Local business owners of Pirtala bazar in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali called the hartal in the bazar area protesting BCL men's attack on their establishments and for injuring 20 businessmen on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Khoksa upazila BNP enforced the hartal to protest a lower court decision that rejected the bail petitions of 13 party leaders of Kushtia district unit.

In Dumki upazila, all business establishments in the bazar remained shuttered down since the morning, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
The pro-hartal activists set fire on tires in different point of the area in the morning.
Abul Hossain, secretary of the bazar committee, said they enforced the shutdown demanding compensation as the BCL men on Tuesday vandalised over 150 shops in the bazar.
At least 50 people including 20 businessmen were injured in a factional clash of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists over submitting tender at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) on Tuesday.
The clash ensued when Shafiqur Rahman Khan, president of the BCL upazila unit, and his men were intercepted by some people led by Kamruzzaman Sohag, president of BCL's PSTU unit, on their way to the university vice chancellor's office to submit tender documents. During the chase and counter-chase the BCL men vandalised the university cafeteria and damaged 150 shops, leaving 20 shop owners injured.
In Khoksa, the vehicular movements remain normal. But the business establishments in the town remained closed since the morning, reports out Kushtia correspondent.
Pro-hartal activists brought out a procession in the town at around 10:00am in support of their hartal.
Khuksa upazila BNP president Syed Amzad Ali told that they called the hartal protesting the bail rejection order of 13 party leaders including district BNP president Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi.
They were arrested following a case filed for assaulting police and obstructing them from performing duties.
Police filed the case against 500 BNP leaders and activists following a clash with the party men on December 10 last year.
The chief judicial magistrate's court of Kushtia on Monday sent the 13 district unit leaders to jail when they had surrendered before the court seeking permanent bail.
On Tuesday, the district BNP had observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district to protest the court decision.
