Students block Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Saturday.
General
students staged a sit-in at the city’s Shahbagh intersection demanding
that the age limit for government services be raised to 35 from 30,
disrupting traffic in the area for over two hours on Saturday. Under the banner of ‘General Students Parishad’, over a hundred students first formed a human chain in front of Shahbagh Museum from 9:00am until 11:30am.
At about 11:30am, the agitators, mostly job seekers, staged the sit-in at Shahbagh intersection to realise their demand.
They also burned tyres and prevented vehicles from passing the crossing during the programme till 2:00pm.
While ending the programme at about 2:00pm, Parishad president Imtiaz Ahmed gave the government a one-week ultimatum, threatening to announce a tougher programme if their demand was not met by the given time.
