'Shibir man behind blogger killing'

5 NSU students held over the murder

Ahmed Rajib Haidar
An Islami Chhatra Shibir activist orchestrated the killing of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haidar, detectives on Saturday quoted five students of North South University (NSU) as saying.
The decision to kill the Shahbagh protest activist was taken one and half months before the plan was carried out, the NSU students, all aged between 19 and 23, allegedly told police.
The five were arrested during raids in different parts of the capital Friday night, according to the Detective Branch of police.
The alleged mastermind and another killer are absconding.

The revelations came three days into Home Minister MK Alamgir’s claim that seven were arrested in connection with the murder.
The five were produced before journalists during a press briefing at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the city in the morning. Journalists however did not get the scope to talk with the arrestees.
Detectives said Faisal bin Nain alias Dip, Ahsan Reza Rumman, Maksudul Hassan Anik, Naim Sikder Irad and Nafiz Imtiaz were arrested Friday night. The other detail of the students was not known immediately.
Haidar, a Shahbagh movement activist, was found stabbed dead near his residence in the city's Mirpur area on February 15.
Earlier on Wednesday, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said seven people have so far been arrested in connection with the murder of Haidar.
Addressing the press briefing, Monirul Islam, a joint commissioner, quoting the arrestees informed newsmen on Saturday that a Shibir man provoked the killing.
