Former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Azam
The
prosecution on Monday completed placing arguments in a war crimes case
filed against former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Azam at the
International Crimes Tribunal-1.The tribunal headed by ATM Fazle Kabir fixed March 7 for placing arguments of the defence.
According to the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act-1973, the court will pronounce its verdict after the summation of the prosecution's and defence's arguments.
Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Aref Tipoo told the tribunal Ghulam Azam was not only the mastermind of '71 genocide in the country but also he planned and hatched plots, incited and had complicity in the war crimes.
Prosecutor Ziad Al-Malum sought capital punishment for Ghulam Azam while placing argument for his (Ghulam Azam) alleged crimes against humanity committed during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
Ghulam Azam however was not taken 7 to the tribunal today.
On March 13 last year, ICT-1 indicted Ghulam Azam, with five charges of crimes against humanity while trial in the case began on June 5, 2012.
The charges against Ghulam Azam include involvement in murder and torture of unarmed people; and conspiracy, planning, incitement and complicity to commit genocide and crimes against humanity during the 1971 war.
