He is our pride, CU colleagues say

Colleagues of celebrated mathematician, physicist, cosmologist and Professor Emeritus of Chittagong University Dr Jamal Nazrul Islam have paid their respects in memory of the rare scientist.

Dr Islam passed away in the early hours of Saturday. He was 74.“He was the pride of this university as well as of Bangladesh,” said Prof Anowarul Azim Arif, Vice Chancellor of the Chittagong University on Saturday.
Prof Arif said Dr Islam’s memories and works will inspire generations to come.
The university’s teachers’ platform President Prof Md Ali Ashraf and General Secretary Sekandar Chowdhury paid respect to the late Professor and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
In a statement, they said with the passing away of Dr Islam, they not only lost a talented scientist but also a guardian.

Two of the professor’s well acclaimed works were Introduction to Cosmology and Ultimate Fate of the Universe. His other works include Classical General Relativity, Rotating Fields in General Relativity, An Introduction to Mathematical Cosmology, Sky and Telescope.
His colleagues said Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam’s books are taught at several international universities including the Cambridge University and Maryland University.
They said the mortal remains of Prof Islam will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar in Chittagong at around 4pm on Saturday for the ordinary people to pay their respects.
