Narayanganj people participate in hartal

People from all strata of life have been observing a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Saturday protesting the killing of a brilliant young man and the son of Narayanganj Gonojagoron Mancha convener.
Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, a cultural organisation, called the shutdown on Friday, hours after the body of Tanvir Mohammad Toki, 17, was found on the bank of the river Shitalakkhya, two days after his going missing.

Tanvir was a son of Narayanganj Gonojagoron Mancha convener Rafiur Rabbi.
Streets were almost empty with hardly any transport, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Hartal supporters took position in different points of the city to enforce the hartal since Saturday morning.
They also put barricade on Dhaka-Narayanganj rail route in Chashara area near Narayanganj Railway Station, halting the rail communications since 8:00am.
Even the fruit shops and eateries remain closed in the city since the morning, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
The shutter of all business establishments and roadside shops also remained closed.
All types of vehicles including long-distance buses remain idle at their stoppages.
Earlier on Friday, victim’s father, vice-president of Narayanganj Nagarik Committee, a citizens’ body, told reporters that Tanvir had secured an outstanding result in the A-level exams which was published a day after the boy had gone missing. He had scored 294 in chemistry and 297 in physics out of 300.
Narayanganj mayor and victim’s father said Tanvir could have been killed for Rabbi’s role in Gonojagoron Mancha, a platform set up to demand capital punishment to all war criminals of the Liberation War.
