Train blocked in N’ganj strike

 
A train was blocked in Narayanganj during the Shangskritik Jot shutdown in the district amidst reports of processions, picketing and road blocks on Saturday.

Streets were almost empty with hardly any transport, reported bdnews24.com Narayanganj Correspondent.The shutdown was called to protest the murder of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki, son of Narayanganj Ganajagaran Mancha unit organiser and cultural activist Rafiur Rabbi. Twaki’s body was found in Shitalakkhya river in the area on Friday, two days after he went missing.


Several left-leaning parties has supported the strike.

Strike supporters brought out a protest procession from Chasharah early morning and blocked roads with burning tyres, said police. Two vehicles were also damaged by them.

They also blocked a Dhaka-bound train at the Chasharah station around 7:00am.

Rail services have generally not been affected during previous strikes though long -route buses generally remained grounded for fear of attack.


The Shangskritik Jot President Pradip Ghosh said Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations had been exempted from the purview of the strike.

Police were deployed at all key points through city, said Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer in-Charge Manjur Kade
