HR chief urges Hasina, Khaleda to sit for talks

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Mizanur Rahman on Thursday urged heads of the country’s biggest political parties to sit for a dialogue.
The NHRC, if necessary, would take initiatives to arrange a dialogue between the two leaders, he said at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
“Just sit for once. You do not need any agenda. Just have a cup of tea together. See and greet each other,” the NHRC boss urged Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia.

“You can show the nation a way out (of the current political volatility),” he added.
The NHRC chairman also urged the government to stand by the people of minority community who came under attack in different parts of the country recently.
Those who use religion for personal gain were creating field for others to make derogatory comments on Islam, he said.
Rahman also urged the government to take steps against the people who spread rumour that babies were falling sick, one had even died, after taking Vitamin A capsules distributed under a government health campaign.
