“We are getting old. You will have to come forward to take the mantle
from our generation. You will make Bangabandhu’s dream of Golden Bengal
a reality,” she told a gathering of children and young people on the
occasion of the Independence Day.
The gathering was organised at
the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday. The Prime Minister hoisted
the National Flag at the start of the gathering.
Forty-two pigeons were released by her into the sky to signify the Independence Day.
Sheikh
Hasina said her government wanted to ensure the rights of every child
in the country. “An appropiate national children policy has been
formulated. The facilities for their education has been increased.”
“Free books were distributed at the beginning of the year and now almost all the children are going to school.”
She also mentioned providing aid to 116,000 students from the Education Assistance Trust Fund.
She
said her government was also providing the disabled children training
in different subjects, besides increasing education facilities for them.
Urging
everyone to uphold the Constitution, the Prime Minister said, “We are a
proud nation. We must uphold the Constitution handed down to us by the
Father of the Nation [Sheikh Mujibur Rahman] .”
She also attended
the parade and took salute at a spectacular march-past by the children
from different educational institutions and organisations.
