Blast near Sonargaon Hotel

Sonargaon Hotel.
Miscreants blasted a homemade bomb Monday afternoon near Sonargaon Hotel in the capital where Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is currently staying.
No injury has been reported in the blast, law enforcers said, adding that the bomb was not a powerful one.
Mukherjee was staying at the hotel when the explosion took place, officials at the Indian Embassy confirmed.
The incident took place at 2:00pm near the Saarc Fountain, few yards off the posh hotel secured by a large number of law enforcers.

The law enforcers however could not arrest anyone in this connection, police said.
Policemen posted near the hotel told The Daily Star that they failed to notice who threw the bomb as there was a lot of traffic there that time despite a shutdown.
“It was a small cocktail,” Maruf, an official of Tejgaon zone of police whose full name could not be learnt immediately, told The Daily Star at the place of occurrence.
Security was further strengthened after the blast.
The Indian president is now in Dhaka on a three-day official visit and will leave Bangladesh at 5:45pm Tuesday by a special aircraft, Air India-1.
