7 RU teachers quit admin posts

Seven teachers of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) resigned from their administrative posts Thursday as the new Vice Chancellor took charge, saying they are unwilling to work with the VC.The teachers – known supporters of former VC Sirajul Karim Choudhury – submitted their resignations Thursday night.
RUET Registrar Prof Abul Bashar told bdnwes24.com they were unwilling to work with new VC Mohammad Mortuza Ali.
The nine teachers include Abdur Razzak, Abu Bakar Siddique, Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, HM Rasel, Niamul Bari and Majedur Rahman.
The resignations vacated nine administrative positions in the university.
“We will feel uncomfortable working with the new VC after the recent anti-VC movement complications... So, we have decided to resign,” said Abdur Razzak.


Mortuza Ali told bdnews24.com that he took the chair under orders from Chancellor and President Mohammad Zillur Rahman Wednesday. “Vacancies at this stage will hamper university management.”

However, he hoped to fill up the vacancies within a short time.

Non-stop demonstrations began following a result scandal at the university against VC Sirajul Karim Choudhury since Nov 15.

President and Chancellor Mohammad Zillur Rahman appointed Mohammad Mortuza Ali to the position on Mar 6. The appointment took effect from that date.
