“Khaleda is backing Jamaat-e-Islami in the killing of law enforcers and minorities. She is trying to foil the trial of ’71 war criminals,” said Ashraf while addressing journalists after placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar on Tuesday, Prothom-Alo reported.
He condemned Khaleda for her March 23 speech in Bogra, where she urged the army to intervene into the politics, governance and constitution of the country.
“This is an unprecedented and undemocratic act,” Ashraf said.
Khaleda during a roadside rally in Bogra said the army would not play the role of “a silent spectator while people are getting killed” and that it would “play its role in due time”.
Taking a U-turn, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday claimed that some newspapers distorted the remarks of Khaleda on the probable role of the army in tackling the country’s political unrest.
“The speech (of Khaleda) was broadcasted and telecasted in all the national newspapers and television channels,” Ashraf said, citing Fakhrul’s comment.
