BNP, Jamaat call shutdown for Thursday

Main opposition BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami have called a daylong hartal (shutdown) for Thursday.
BNP called for the shutdown to protest attacks on its activists allegedly by law enforcers during a demonstration in front of its headquarters in Nayapaltan Wednesday afternoon.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme at a press briefing at the party office.

Meanwhile, Jamaat also called for a hartal on the same day protesting countrywide genocide and violence inflicted by the government during demonstrations demanding release of its leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, said a press release quoting Jamaat acting secretary general Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan.
