Senior Awami League leader Abdul Jalil, who was undergoing treatment in Singapore since February 25, died Wednesday.
The veteran politician had been fighting for his life at Mount Elizabeth Hospital as his condition deteriorated Wednesday morning, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AL joint general secretary and special assistant to the prime minister, told The Daily Star.

The 72-year old politician was put under life-support as his health conditions deteriorated.
“Doctors were performing kidney dialysis since the morning and the kidney was not functioning properly. So, he was kept under life support,” he said.
The AL lawmaker served as the party’s general secretary from December 2002 to July 2009.
Prime Minister and president of the AL, Sheikh Hasina, and general secretary of the party, Syed Ashraful Islam, have expressed shock at Jalil’s death.
