Cartoonist and blogger Tariqul Islam Shanto was laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard Tuesday afternoon. Thirty-nine-year-old Shanto, a staunch supporter of the Shahbagh movement, was buried around 2:15pm.
Shanto suffered a cardiac arrest while staging demonstrations at Projonmo Chottor Monday afternoon.
He was rushed to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital where the doctors declared him dead at 3:45pm.
Earlier, thousands of people including the Shahbagh protesters, artists and bloggers took part in the second namaz-e-janaza of Shanto Tuesday.
The janaza was held at Dhaka University central mosque around 11:30am. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique also attended the janaza.
On Monday evening, the first janaza of Shanto was held at Railgate Mosque in west Nakhalpara of the capital.
The protesters also offered prayer at Shahbagh intersection around noon seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.
After attending the janaza, prominent dramatist and actor Mamunur Rashid said Shanto always made drama based on stories related to the country's Liberation War.
He also said that Shanto was an innocent and good man.
Shanto, the younger brother of Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, senior deputy editor of Bengali daily Prothom Alo, started his professional career in Bhorer Kagoj as a cartoonist.
Hailed from Bashail of Tangail, Shanto had also served at well-known magazine, 'Ummad' alongside the newspaper.
