A
High Court bench on Monday granted bail to BNP acting secretary general
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the sixth and final case over vandalism
during the December 9 road blockade. His lawyers said there is no legal bar to Fakhrul's release from jail if not implicated in any fresh case.
Fakhrul earlier secured bail in the five other cases filed over vandalism during their agitation programme on December 9 last year
.
Police filed the cases on December 9 last year on charge of vandalising vehicles and preventing police from discharging their duties during the countrywide road blockade enforced by BNP-led 18-party alliance.
The HC bench comprising Justice Kamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain granted him bail after hearing a bail petition filed by Fakhrul on Sunday.
The bench also issued a rule upon the government to explain in four weeks why Fakhrul should not be granted regular bail in the vandalism case.
