Mobarak charged for war crimes

Mobarak Hossain
The prosecution submitted formal war crimes charges against Mobarak Hossain, known as Awami Leaguer, to the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday.
Saidur Rahman, prosecutor of the case, told the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that Mobarak has been accused in five types of crimes against humanity that he had committed during the country's Liberation War in 1971.

The detail of the charges however could not be known immediately.
The ICT-1 fixed March 11 to decide whether it would accept the charges against Mobarak.
The tribunal took the move, after the prosecutor informed the ICT-1 that he had submitted the formal charges to the registrar office of the tribunal in the morning.
The tribunal also extended Mobarak's bail until March 11. The suspect has been on bail since July 16 last year.
Earlier on February 12, the ICT-1 asked the prosecution to submit formal charges against Mobarak on Monday (today).
Mobarak, according to local politicians, was the organising secretary of a union unit of Awami League of Akhaura upazila in Brahmanbaria for 16 years.
Khodeja Begum, whose father was allegedly killed by Mobarak Hossain alias Mobarak Ali, had filed a case with Brahmanbaria court in 2009, which was later transferred to tribunal-1.
