homemade bombs at law enforcers in the capital's Tikatuli area Tuesday
morning, according to police.The law enforcers fired shots from shotguns to scare the Jamaat-Shibir men away, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Wari Police Station told The Daily Star.
No-one was injured during the incident, which began at 8:45am.
Around 200 Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession and marched through the streets in Tikatuli, the OC said.
As police rushed there and tried to disperse the processionists, the latter hurled two handmade bombs at them.
Police, in retaliation, fired nine gunshots and dispersed the Jamaat-Shibir men.
No-one was detained in this connection till filing of this report at 1:15pm.
In another incident in the capital's Agargaon area, law enforcers detained three Jamaat-Shibir men when they brought out a procession, said Abdul Momen, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Nearly 10 to 12 Jamaat-Shibir men brought out the procession in front of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly called Pangu Hospital, around 11:00am, the OC said.
As police chased them, they fled the scene. The law enforcers detained three activists from the spot.
In Khulna, five Shibir activists were injured as police charged batons on them near Lions School in Khulna city Tuesday morning, said Md Quamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Police also detained two Shibir leaders, including its city unit treasurer Abdullah, from the spot.
The incident took place around 9:45am when the Shibir men brought out a procession protesting the 'killing of four people including its leader Ali Asgar Khan Rahat in police firing' on Friday.
The Shibir men faced police resistance near Lions School, marching through Gallamary area of the city, reports our Khulna correspondent.
On Friday, in a countrywide reign of terror, Jamaat and its sympathisers attacked law enforcers and journalists, burned the national flag and vandalised Shaheed Minars to counter the mass demand for capital punishment to 1971 war criminals.
They chose mosques as gathering points and launched attacks with handmade bombs, guns, and sticks, leaving at least four persons killed and nearly 1,000 people including 14 journalists wounded.
