A section of pro-Awami League lawyers on Tuesday demanded the chief justice takes steps against a High Court judge, who distributed photocopies of news items on the alleged blog write-ups of Ahmed Rajib Haider to other judges.
“Justice Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan have committed gross misconduct showing loyalty to the politics of Jamaat-Shibir by distributing the photocopies of the news items to the other judges,” said Advocate ASM Mezbahuddin, a former president of Supreme Court Bar Association.
Mizanur has no right to sit in the bench as a judge, Mezbahuddin said.
He was speaking at an emergency general meeting organised by a faction of the association at South Hall of the SCBA.
Mezbahuddin further said lawyers will boycott the court of Justice Mizanur until Supreme Judicial Council takes steps against him.
Advocate Anisul Haque, principle state counsel for the Bangabandhu murder case, also urged the chief justice to take appropriate steps immediately against Justice Mizanur.
Mizanur had lost his eligibility to hold the post of a judge as he had insulted not only the Shahbagh protesters but also the whole nation.
Earlier on Monday, Judge Mizanur Rahman sent photocopies of news items on the blog write-ups of Haider regarding Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to other judges.
The news item was published in the daily Inqilab on Monday.
Judges of both the Appellate Division and the High Court division of the Supreme Court, including the chief justice, received an envelope each containing the reports.
Later, Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain called Mizanur, who was appointed to the High Court on July 29, 2002 during the previous rule of BNP-Jamaat led four-party alliance, at his office and cautioned him for his action.
Criminals hacked Rajib, a blogger and activist of the ongoing Shahbagh movement, dead near his house at Palash Nagar in the capital's Pallabi Friday night.
