Man killed as cops open fire on marauding Jamaat-Shibir

A man died and two sustained bullet wounds as police opened fire on Jamaat-Shibir men when the latter attacked them in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla during hartal on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, 22, of Anandapur village and the injured were named as Naimul Islam Murad, 23, of Ludibhanga village and Enayet Hossain, 18, of Durgapur village in the upazila.
The incident took place when the marauding activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked a patrolling police van in Amzader Bazar area around 10:45am, reports a correspondent from Chouddagram quoting Muzammel Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chouddagram Police Station.

The OC said police had to open fire on the pro-hartal activists to resist the Shibir men that left three people wounded. However, the witnesses put the number of injured at seven.
The police official said Ibrahim succumbed to his injuries after he along with two other injured were admitted to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex in critical condition.
The OC said the prickets vandalised several vehicles and torched a CNG-run Auto-rickshaw in the area before clashing with the police.
Chouddagram Upazila Jamaat Ameer (president) Shahabuddin said at least seven to eight activists received bullet wounds when police fired on their leaders and activists.
He claimed Ibrahim as their activist and said police arrested at least 10-12 of their party men during the hartal.
