Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
Calling
the government irresponsible, BNP acting secretary general Mirza
Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday accused it of igniting the ongoing
tension.“The responsibility of any government is to pacify tension. But it’s very unfortunate that the current regime is not doing so and provoking tension instead," he said. "The government has to bear the responsibility for it.”
The BNP leader alleged that the government was pushing the country towards anarchy in a planned way to divert people’s attention from its failures.
He was speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club in the capital.
Islami Oikya Jote arranged the programme on the life and works of the party’s former chairman late Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini.
The BNP acting secretary general urged the government to restore peace in the country, saying, “Perform your duty….don’t play with the flame, it may burn yourselves.”
He called upon the youths, demonstrating at Shahbagh and other parts of the country demanding execution of war criminals, to sing the songs of love shunning the songs of vengeance to build the nation.
“A happy, prosperous and democratic Bangladesh can’t be built only seeking execution and slaughtering. You’ll have to realise it.”
Referring to the recent violence between the activists of Islamic parties and police and ruling party activists, Fakhrul said 21 devoted Muslims were gunned down for protesting the desecration to the greatest prophet Hazrat Mohammad (pbuh).
Mentioning that people’s religious sentiment came under attack, the BNP leader said, “Nothing can be done without religion. People of Bangladesh are devoted to religion but their not blind to it…no one should make any disparaging comment about Hazrat Mohammad (pbuh). ”
Chaired by IOJ Chairman Moulana Abdul Latif Nezami, the discussion was addressed by, among other, IOJ vice-chairman and Mufti Amini’s son Abul Hasnat Amini, Jagpa President Shafiul Alam Pradhan and Kalyan Party Chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim.
