Jamaat enforced the daylong hartal in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and three hill districts -- Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari -- under greater Chittagong after the party leaders had denied permission for holding a rally in the port city on Thursday.
The hartal however could not hamper the activities in the Chittagong Port.
Loading and unloading operation of 36 ships are going on at different jetties and outer anchorage, port authorities said.
A few numbers of public bus and microbus were seen plying on the city streets while rickshaws and three-wheelers are dominating the roads.
All educational institutions remain closed following the hartal but most of the roadside shops remained opened.
On Wednesday, the party announced that it would hold a rally in front of Anderkilla Shahi Jaam-e-Mosque, protesting killings of four Jamaat activists in Chittagong during its February 5 hartal. But the Chittagong Metropolitan Police had not given them permission.
Four people, including two pedestrians, were killed in clashes during the hartal enforced by Jamaat, said police sources, but Jamaat claims all of them belonged to the party.
