Nat'l cricket team too joins Shahbagh youths

Bangladeshi expats also express solidarity

The members of Bangladesh National Cricket Team also joined the Shahbagh intersection where thousands of youths are demonstrating for sixth consecutive day on Sunday demanding capital punishment of all war criminals.The team reached the venue nicknamed 'Projonmo Chottor' around 1:30pm.
Earlier, around 11:00am all the team members of Duronto Rajshahi led by its owner Mushfiqur Rahman Mohan reached Shahbagh intersection.

People from all walks of life specially youths and students started the demonstration on February 5, hours after Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah was given life imprisonment in a war crimes case.
Meanwhile, a ‘gallows’ has been constructed at the center of the intersection and more and more people are pouring in to witness the mock executions, reports our correspondent covering the events.
As time passes by, thousands of vigorous youths driven by the spirit of the 71 converged on the venue.
Expressing solidarity with the demonstration, Mushfiqur said that it was a good news for the country that no Pakistani players were playing in this year's Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament.
"We fell proud of the non-participation of Pakistani players in the tournament," he said.
The team members left the place around 11:30am.
Earlier on Saturday night, Khulna Royal Bengals skipper Shahriar Nafees visited the demonstrations at the Shahbagh intersection.
Several hundred protesters under the banner of 'Bloggers and Online Activist Network' began their today's activities in the morning at the intersection.
The intersection turned into a human sea with the participation of thousands of protesters when it was afternoon.
Students of Dhaka City College, Ideal College, Dhaka College, Adamzi Cantonment College, Stamford College, Badrunnesa College, National Polytechnic Institute, Sheikh Borhanuddin Post Graduate College, Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rauf School and College and Ideal Commerce College took part in the demonstration and were seen chanting slogans.
Besides, students of Dhaka University, Jagannath University (JnU) and Dhaka Medical College (DMC) also joined the protest, avoiding their classes.
Popular writer Anisul Haque and Human Rights activist Khushi Kabir also joined the demonstration.
Meanwhile, police opened the road leading from Ruposhi Bangla Hotel to Matshya Bhaban through Shahbagh around 12:30pm considering commuters' and patients' sufferings.
Earlier on Friday, the organiser also held a grand rally at Shahbagh intersection. Tens of thousands thronged the rally and called for death penalty of all war criminals of the Liberation War.
On Tuesday, the ICT-2 sentenced Abdul Quader Mollah, assistant general secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, to life term imprisonment for his war crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Bangladeshi expatriates in USA also expressed their solidarity with the Shahbagh movement, reports Prothom Alo.
The expatriates residing in Virginia and Maryland joined a solidarity rally organised by 'Dristipat', a social organisation, at Washington, DC on Saturday and demanded capital punishment to those who committed crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
During the demonstration, they termed the youths at Shahbagh 'the heart of Bangladesh'.
It was the demand of time to pronounce death sentence to war criminals and free the country from Razakars, they said.
They also lamented as they could not join the youths in the historic movement.
Besides Washington, several solidarity rallies were also held in different parts of the New York city.
