“Bangladesh received $ 1453.60 million in remittance in October…this is the highest in a month in the country’s history,” Bangladesh Bank General Manager AFM Asaduzzaman told UNB over phone on Thursday.
He said the central bank attributed the rise in the remittance inflow to its increased flow before Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja, and sending it through formal banking channel.
The remittance receipts stood at $1.3 billion as of October 26 while foreign currency reserve at $11.69 billion as of October 16, 15 percent higher than the $10.17 billion recorded for the day last year.
According to the BB data, the country’s expatriates sent home wages of around $ 1171.90 million by the end of September.
The central bank’s data also show that remittance inflow in January 2012 posted a record amount of $1,221.41 million for the first time in Bangladesh. The previous record was $ 1,201.15 million in July 2012.
