Dhaka, Nov 11 Having effect of a 6.8-magnitude tremor, which rocked Myanmar, Chittagong and the other southern parts of the country were shaken on Sunday morning.
The tremor was originated some 60-km northeast of Myanmar's second-largest city Mandalay, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS)
Bangladesh Meteorological Department official Nor Binte Jahir, however, said the epicenter of the tremor, which was felt around 7.12am, was some 506 Kilometres east of Dhaka and measured 6.6 on the Richter Scale.
No immediate reports of causalities were reported immediately in Bangladesh. It lasted 15 seconds.
The tremor, which hit central Myanmar on Sunday near Mandalay, reportedly left five people dead.
It struck around 60 km (37 miles) northwest of Mandalay, the USGS said. It was quite shallow at around 10 km (6 miles) deep.
bdnews24.com correspondents reported that the tremor was also felt in Chittagong, Bhola and other southern parts of the country.
Myanmar's local media said a half-built bridge over the Irrawaddy River near Shwebo and Kyauk Myaung had collapsed. Some construction workers went missing since then.
Reuters quoted a police officer in Shwebo as saying one woman died and 10 people had been injured in Kyauk Myaung.
"A house collapsed in Kyauk Myaung. The Radana Thinga Bridge, still under construction, over the river was badly damaged. A huge steel beam fell into the river and five workers went missing," he told Reuters.
State television, the usual mouthpiece for government statements in Myanmar along with state-run newspapers, gave a report on the quake that did not mention any casualties or damage.
