Don't get provoked, PM urges hill people

Bandarban, Nov 17 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday urged the people of hill tracts not to pay heed to any provocation to maintain peace in the region.
"There had been lack of peace in the hill region for long before we took office in 1996. Now peace is prevailing there, but many have started instigating," Hasina told a gathering organised by the district unit of the Awami League after inaugurating the Ruma Bridge in Bandarban in the morning.
She also urged the locals of the hill tracts not to go by those instigations as it could hamper peace in the region.
Sheikh Hasina unveiled the bridge over Sangu river around 11am as the first programme in her day-long visit to Bandarban. Later Hasina went to Thanchi upazila to inaugurate the Sangu Bridge.
Hasina is expected to return to Dhaka after addressing a public gathering organised by the ruling party at Rajar Math (field) in Bandarban town in the afternoon.
After inaugurating the 217-meter-long bridge over Sangu river, Hasina said, "I promised you I will work for the development of your locality. I am happy because I could make it to this place by car."
She felt the bridge would help minimise people's sufferings with regard to medical facilities and shifting fruits-vegetables to market for sale.
"The development of communication system will also catch tourists' attraction," she hoped.
The Prime Minister said her government was working on another plan for the development of the region as the landscape and nature of the region is diverse.

Among others, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader, MP Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and Chief of Army Staff Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan were also present at the programme.
