Muhith blames Yunus

Dhaka, Nov 8 Finance Minister A M A Muhith on Thursday accused Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus of propagating against Bangladesh and creating a negative image of the country abroad.
Speaking at a discussion at the NEC auditorium on Thursday, Muhith blamed Yunus for his role, saying such effort by Yunus is creating obstacles to bringing foreign investment.
The minister also questioned Yunus' honesty, especially when he speaks.
The government's relation with the Nobel laureate tainted after Yunus was stripped of his position as the Grameen Bank Managing Director and rules were amended for the appointment of a new MD.
On Tursday, Muhith said Yunus was campaigning against Bangladesh because he did not want to leave Grameen Bank. "He has wonderful publicity machinery."
"He lacks honesty when he speaks," Muhith added.
Muhith expressed dissatisfaction over lack of foreign investment and blamed lack of resources, corruption and other barriers.
He also blamed the UK-based 'The Economist' weekly for doing negative publicity.
"It (The Economist) had a target for last four years: to destroy our economy."
Yunus had reacted sharply when the Cabinet on Aug 2 decided to amend the rules for appointing Managing Director to Grameen Bank. The Cabinet had earlier rejected a proposal to re-appoint Yunus as the MD.
