Bangladesh, Belarus ink 12 deals, MoUs


Dhaka, Nov 12 Bangladesh and Belarus on Monday signed a dozen deals and memorandums of understanding for cooperation in a number of areas, including business and investment, agriculture, education, and science and technology.
Representatives of the two countries signed seven deals and five MoUs in presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Belarus' visiting PM Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The signing ceremony was held in the afternoon following a meeting the two PMs had at Hasina's office around 11:30am.
Hasina gifted a copy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 'Unfinished Autobiography' to Myasnikovich after the ceremony.
Myasnikovich arrived in Dhaka on a three-day trip on Sunday.
He attended a luncheon thrown by businessmen and industrialists at Hotal Sonargaon in his honour. He is set to lead a team of businessmen from Belarus to a meeting with their Bangladeshi counterparts later in the day.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni visited Belarus last month and invited Myasnikovich to Bangladesh.
Myasnikovich will meet with President Zillur Rahman during his visit. He will also attend a discussion with students at the Dhaka University on Tuesday.
He will leave for Belarus in the evening winding up his three-day visit to Bangladesh.
Agreement for Promotion and Protection of Investment, Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports, Agreement on Cooperation between Belarus State Center for Accreditation and Bangladesh Accreditation Board, Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology, Agreement on Military Technical Cooperation, Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Education, and a general agreement for cooperation between the Bangladesh Institute of International Strategic Studies – BIISS – and Center for International Studies of the Belarus State University were also signed.
The memorandums of understanding are: MoUs on cooperation in legal sphere, on establishment of friendly relations between Minsk and Dhaka City, and on cooperation in agro industrial manufacturing.
Two more MoUs -- one on quality and safety assurances of export of the aquatic biological resources, of objects of aquaculture and of processed products from Bangladesh, and another one on cooperation between Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were signed between Dhaka and Minsk.
Industry Minister Dilip Barua, State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Quamrul Islam and the officials concerned signed the agreements and MoUs on behalf of Bangladesh, while Minister of Industries Dmitry Katerinich, Deputy Minister for Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasily Kazakevich and senior officials represented the Belarus side.
