Dhaka, Nov 04 Jagannath University teachers besieged VC's office and went on strike on the first working day after Eid holiday on Sunday demanding to resolve their transport crisis.
University Teachers' Association President and General Secretary led a group of about 40 teachers and took position in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office at 9am.
VC Mesbahuddin Ahmed was not present in office at the time.
Teachers Association President Professor Mohammad Selim told bdnews24.com they would continue their agitation until teachers' transport crisis were solved and promises were made that the old vehicles would be replaced by new ones. Tougher programs would be declared if necessary, he added.
VC told bdnews24.com over telephone that problems would be solved by discussing the issue with the teachers association.
Teachers said they have to come from faraway places every day since the university did not have residential facilities for teachers. They alleged that only five buses were allocated for the about 300 teachers.
