Dhaka, Nov 6 Over 400 activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami were accused in three cases on Tuesday, a day after clashes with the law enforcers at Motijheel in the capital in which about 50 people were injured.
Police said they would file three more cases over the clashes in which members of the party's student wing -- Islami Chhatra Shibir -- also reportedly participated.
The clashes broke out as police on Monday intercepted a rally brought out by the Islamist party demanding release of its leaders standing trial over war crimes charges.
The Jamaat activists turned violent in the city's commercial area Motijheel, the police and witnesses said.
The clashes lasted for an hour when the party activists set a BRTC bus, a police vehicle and several motorbikes ablaze. The police arrested 31 people from the spot.
Motijheel Police Station Sub Inspector Habibur Rahman said as many as 65 were named in the three cases while the rest were unnamed.
Police sub inspectors Belayet Hossain and Rafiqul Hasan, and Assistant Sub Inspector Tofazzal Hossain filed the cases.
Jamaaat activists clashed with law enforcers at several places in the country on Monday while demonstrating to press for the release of their leaders.
