Chairperson Khaleda Zia, now on a weeklong official tour of India, on
Thursday offered fateha at the shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin
Chishti in Ajmer Sharif and prayed for the country’s peace and
prosperity.The opposition leader and her entourage members offered fateha there at about 1:15pm, her Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told the news agency over phone.
BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam, Chairperson’s advisers Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed, vice president Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, former state minister Quamrul Islam, former lawmaker Khaleda Robbani, Maruf Kamal Khan and Private Secretary Saleh Ahmed were, among others, present.
On Wednesday, Khaleda left New Delhi for Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, by road with special security arrangements and stayed overnight there at Rambagh Palace. She was scheduled to return to New Delhi Thursday night.
Khaleda went to New Delhi on October 28 on a weeklong official visit to India, her first visit as the opposition leader.
She already met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, opposition leader Sushma Swaraj, Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and National Security Adviser Shibshankar Menon.
Khaleda is also scheduled to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, ruling Congress President Sonia Gandhi and key leaders of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Khaleda’s last official visit to India was in 2006 as the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She is expected to return home on November 3.
