TIB study method flawed: Inu

He says in formal govt reaction to TIB report on MPs

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Sunday said the research method used by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for surveying lawmakers is of low category, flawed and weak.
"That's why the base of the report was very weak and indefinite," the minister said while giving a formal reaction on behalf of the government on the TIB report revealed on October 14.
The report said 97 percent of the 149 sitting MPs surveyed were involved in "negative activities" while 70 percent of them were engaged in "criminal activities.
The minister said the TIB has used the method convenient for it to establish the headline and idea, which it fixed earlier.
It has been turned into a fashion for a vested quarter to demean politicians as corrupt but it is very painful because TIB could conduct its research neutrally, coming out of this fashion, he said.
Inu said the government took the TIB report very seriously as it has taken a tough stance against corruption committed in the past and present.
But the government was very disappointed after getting the report as TIB failed to bring specific charges against any of the lawmakers blamed for negative and criminal activities, he said.
"For that reason, it is not possible to take any administrative action against any of them," the minister said.
He called upon the TIB to amend the report through a proper survey.
Earlier, TIB submitted the survey report to the government after the later asked for it.
The information ministry prepared the reaction after studying the report.
