More than 500 sued over student clash

Three cases were filed against at least 500 people late on Wednesday in connection with Wednesday's clashes between the students of Jagannath University and Kabi Nazrul Govt College at Old Dhaka.
A teacher of Kabi Nazrul Govt College, whose name could not be known immediately, filed two cases against at least 500 unknown persons with Sutrapur Police Station for torching vehicles and vandalism at the campus.
Shah Alam, a sub-inspector of the police station filed the third case accusing 500 to 600 unidentified people on charge of preventing policemen from discharging their duties.
At least 30 people, including students, teachers and policemen, were injured, five cars and seven motorbikes torched during the clashes at Kabi Nazrul Govt College campus over a trifling matter.
The authorities of Kabi Nazrul Islam Govt College and Jagannath University formed two separate committees to probe the incident.
Police high officials and leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League units at both institutions claimed that Islami Chhatra Shibir men carried out the attacks and vandalism taking advantage of the situation.
