Dhaka, Nov 17 Senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to create unrest in the country by threatening to implement Sharia law.
"The Prime Minister has said, if needed, action will be taken against war criminals as per the Sharia law," Mosharraf told a programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
He said Awami League 'reaps' benefits at home and abroad by talking of secularism. "We think the President of such a party wants to confuse people and create political unrest by threatening to hold trial under the Sharia law."
At a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee on Friday Hasina said, "We know the alternative way if the limit is crossed. We know what we need to do. Action will be taken as per the Sharia law, if necessary."
Mosarraf dismissed Hasina's claim that good governance was prevailing in the country and added, "The remark of the Prime Minister is nothing but a falsehood."
Referring to the killing of 57 army officials in Peelkhana, loss incurred by tens of thousands of small investors in the stock market - which the BNP leader termed as 'money looting', Hallmark scam and attack on the Buddhist community in Ramu, Mosarraf said: "Is there any governance in the country, any where?"
"Where was the police administration when abducted Keraniganj first-grader Parag Mondol was freed upon payment of Tk 5 million," he asked.
The Shadhinota Forum organised the programme demanding to know the whereabouts of missing BNP Organising Secreatry M Ilias Ali.
The BNP alleged that the government itself was behind the abduction of Alias Ali, who went missing on Apr 17.
"At least 156 political activists were abducted and 462 were victims of extra-judicial killings during the term of the incumbent government. The human rights violation is at its peak in Bangladesh," Mosarraf said.
