 BUET VC tells his office to withdraw cases


Dhaka, Sep 4 Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Vice Chancellor SM Nazrul Islam on Tuesday asked his administration to withdraw two cases filed against some agitating teachers and students of the university demanding his removal.
On Aug 2, the authorities of BUET had filed the cases at the Shahbagh Police Station on charges of rampage, theft and attacking the offices of the VC and Pro-VC.
"I have ordered withdrawal of the cases following the decision taken at the meeting between the BUET teachers' association and the Education Minister," Islam told bdnews24.com.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid held a meeting with the BUET teachers at his residence on Monday night to discuss issues relating to the ongoing unrest on the campus over removal of its two top administrators.
The teachers agreed to return to classes on condition of withdrawal of cases against them and removal of the Pro-VC.
As many as 49 teachers and students, and about 100 other unnamed protesters were accused in the cases filed by BUET Assistant Registrar (Security) Golam Quddus
