Saturday, September 22, 2012 The clash between
indigenous people and Bangali settlers quelled after Rangamati district
administration imposed Section 144 in entire town on Saturday.
“Until further instruction, the imposition stays effective,” Mostafa Kamal, deputy commissioner of Rangamati, told The Daily Star.

At least 10 people were injured as the clash erupted from Rangamati Government College in the morning centering an altercation between a Bengali and an indigenous student.
“The two students had an altercation over a trivial issue; there was nothing ‘communal’ in that. But later two groups of students engaged in the clash and it spread all over the town,” said Masud-ul-Hassan, superintendent of police (SP) of Rangamati.
Border Guard Bangladesh, huge contingent of police and army personnel were deployed in the town to avert further untoward incident, the SP added.
