Social Good Summit: Dhaka event begins

Dhaka, Sep 24 Bangladeshis are sharing ideas on how to tackle development problems using technology and social media in a locally organised meet-up at the Prime Minister's Office as part of the UN's three-day Social Good Summit.
UNDP Bangladesh and Access to Information Programme are co-hosting the event that began at 4pm at the Karabi Hall to engage the community to spur innovative thinking on toughest issues.

Billed as one of the largest and most global conversations in history, the third annual Social Good Summit is taking place since Sept 22 in New York City during the UN Week.
It came to Bangladesh on Monday, the last day of the global event that aims to empower people everywhere to have their voices be heard, both during and after the event.
People in Bangladesh and elsewhere are connecting through local Meet-ups to answer the same question: "How can new technology and new media create solutions for the biggest problems facing your community."
Young leaders from Bangladesh in the fields of technology, social services, e-governance, social media and new media are present on the panel and in the audience.
So are members of civil society, government, development organisations, entrepreneurs, innovative technologists and business groups.
The session in Dhaka is discussing the state of online and new media in Bangladesh, best practices of using social media in public services and development, how can new media and technology be further harnessed to create local and national solutions and what are the stumbling blocks to achieving development through new media and technology.
Bangladesh's first Internet newspaper is the online media partner of the event.
This year's summit is believed to be more engaging than ever as people from around the world, in both the developed and the developing world, are uniting in person and online to take part in The Global Conversation – the world's largest conversation on how technology can grow communities and improve life for all in an increasingly networked society.
Each year the United Nations General Assembly marks an opportunity for global leaders to gather in New York to address and take action against some of the world's most pressing issues.
