Wednesday, September 19, 2012 Baira on Wednesday threatened to stop manpower export if the government level agreement between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur was not scraped immediately.
On September 12, Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur decided to go for state arrangements for recruitment of Bangladeshi workers by Malaysia, putting aside the long involvement of private manpower agencies and brokers in the process.
"If this situation continues and the government does not discuss with Baira on the issue, we will immediately stop sending manpower abroad," said Shah Jalal Mojumder, president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira).
The Baira president was speaking at a press conference at Ruposhi Bangla hotel in the capital.
Criticising the expatriates' welfare minister, he claimed that the obstinate mindset of the minister is the key reason behind the recent declining trend in manpower export.
"Middle East countries are nowadays unwilling to take workers from Bangladesh as they believe that Bangladesh government and Baira are at loggerhead over different issues," the Baira president alleged.
According to Mojumder, the manpower recruiting countries came to this conclusion after various statements of government against Baira were published in the media.
