Dhaka, Sep 26 Opposition chief Khaleda Zia on Wednesday broke into tears as she stood beside the coffin to see her late younger brother Sayeed Eskander for the last time.
The body of the BNP Advisor and also a former MP was taken to his Baridhara residence on Park Road around 10am after it arrived in Dhaka at 8:50am on Wednesday by a Biman flight.
Khaleda Zia went there right away with other family members, including Sayeed's wife Nasrin Eskander, their sons Shams Eskander and Safin Eskander, and daughter Sumaiya Eskander.
A sobbing BNP Chairperson was also seen consoling her brother's family.
Among the party leaders, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Advisor Abdul Aual Mintu, Mosaddek Ali Falu, Prof MA Mannan, MP Zainal Abedin, Rehana Akhter Ranu and Syeda Ashrafu Papia were also present with the party chief.
Sayeed Eskander died in a New York hospital on Sep 23 suffering from lung cancer. He was also President of the BNP's Feni district unit.
His first namaj-e-janaza was held at Jamaica Muslim Centre in New York. The second janaza will be held in the South Plaza of the parliament complex at 2pm Wednesday.
His next janaza is due to take place in front of the BNP's Naya Paltan headquarters later in the afternoon to be followed by the last one at Azad Mosque in Gulshan.
Eskander, a former military officer, will be buried at the military graveyard in Banani.
As a mark of respect, the BNP is keeping the party flag half-mast alongside hoisting a black flag and the party activists wearing black badges.
